SELFIEPOINT #1

 

One of the Landscapes of the series My Travels Through The World On My Copy Machine was used for the Installation Selfiepoint. In this Installation the visitors of the exhibition are invited to take a selfie in front of this large-format  andscape. With SELFIEPOINT Teufen creates a critical and at the same time witty-ironic reference to a curren topic. In today's age of smartphones and the associated permanent self-presentation on social media platforms, the selfie serves as evidence of one's own lifestyle as a jet setter, but also as evidence that the place visited actually exists. Teufen takes this fact to the point of absurdity by making the visitors part of the game of illusions. The selfie shot in the art space becomes a deceptive proof of existence of a wondrous landscape, which however is not a tangible reality, but just an invention of the artist that has become an image. (The question is asked: if one takes a selfie in a fictive space, does this photograph then confirms the fiction
as real.)
